Tips: How to Put on Classical Hack Gameby Philip J. Viverito IntroductionHave a Cause, Have a Caution As the years have passed I am finding more and more gamers want to put on Classical Hack Games at both national and local conventions. Many thanks to you all and there are no words that would adequately express my thanks. With the advent of this kind of interest many of you have helped out have asked for some general help in doing games. I hope here to answer this important desire for information. Naturally these are just guidelines based on what I have experienced in more than 20 years of gaming. I will share these with you.The primary thing to contemplate is the reason you wish to be a Game Master. The reasons can be legion. For me it was that I created a game system which I wished to promote. For those who have not written their own rules it is likely that you attended a convention and had a great experience with a particular games system. This experience proved so fulfilling that you elected to play again and the experience was repeated. You got into the grove and being comfortable with the system you thought it would be fun to go it alone. Sharing your experience with others can become fulfilling and addictive. Other reasons might include enjoying a minor leadership position in our discipline. Then too you have found your system of choice and hope to promote it so that it continues. Another reason might be fulfilling the general need for helping out at a convention as a volunteer on a limited scale. Perhaps you like showing off some great terrain or your special figures or favorite armies. Maybe you just want to try something new. With a cause you must have a caution too. There are pitfalls which I will discuss later. What I am saying is have a good personal reason to put on a game. At first you may feel uneasy running a game but that will pass away and in time you will really get into it. When you get into it you will fulfill yourself in many ways you would never have thought. You will change hopefully for the better. Ok you have a cause or reason to put on a game. |
