Tips: How to Put on Classical Hack Game - page 2 of 6
Getting Going With a Road Map

With your purpose established you are ready to begin. I will presume you have a favorite game system (no doubt Classical Hack), a period and armies. These are really important. With all this the next thing to consider is knowledge. You should have at least a basic understanding of a particular period and people expressed through the amy you choose as well as the rules. You do not have to be an expert just basically knowledgeable in these things.

Having set the stage in time and with the proper armies yo must move on to the rules themselves. With Classical Hack this is made pretty easy as most people with or without previous gaming experience are playing by turn three.

With all this said you must now organize yourself with some rule system tools. The first is a good Q.R.S. or Quick Reference Sheet. I can help you here if you need it, just ask. The Q.R.S. should be attractive and easy to read. They should always have a banner announcing what game system you are using. Hopefully they will be Classical Hack or Knight Hack or even Homeric Hack. Become familiar with the Q.R.S. so you can help others without stumbling. Everything the players need should be on this sheet for playing the game. Knowing what you are looking at will give you authority which can only come from your being secure in your knowledge of the rules. If you are not sure of the rules you will stumble. That’s ok because when we start we all stumble even after hours of preparing at home with friends or solo. The Q.R.S. is your road map to a good game. It has all the directions in a compact and succinct delivery system that can be explained in 20 minutes or less. A demonstration game is a highlight to the rules. Forget about getting every little nuance into a game. If the core system does not appeal to people they will not become interested into knowing more. You will inspire them to learn more about the system.

Practice with the Q.R.S. For questions which might stump you I would suggest deciding things in one of two ways. I like the simple roll of a D-6 die with one to three being one possible answer and four to six being the opposite side of the coin. If you are really strong then just state the ajudication as you think it should be. What ever way you elect to go remain faithful to that answer for the remainder of that game. From consistency comes authority. I truly respect the oppinion of others in regard to interpretation when I see their point might be valid. So I use the D-6 method.

Always keep a set of the rules with your Q.R.S. road map. Do not be afraid to refer to it. Don’t be afraid to make a decision even if it later turns out to be wrong. Knowing your have a good road map you are prepared to meet any challenge. You are now well armed with your knowledge of the period, the armies and the game system.
