Tiring of TyreCreating A Scenarioby Philip J. Viverito John Wilson from Australia enquired about recreating my Tyre scenario. Since I never tire of Tyre, let me begin with the vessels I made to create the fleets of the Persians and the Macedonians. Notice I say Macedonians because Alexander's army was a Macedonian army and not a Greek army. Alexander did have Greek contingents but they were not Macedonians. Alexander did not trust ship owning Greeks and won control of the sea by capturing Persian ports and with relatively few ships won the sea ways. First to create the vessels which were primarily triremes and biremes and then barges I used a plastic sheeting from Precision Products but card stock or board can be used too. On this sheeting I made a general template for the vessel's sides, bottoms, decks and tabs. To make the template I used a dollar store boat and outlined it on the sheeting. I then estimated the size for the vessels sides and decks. I cut one template for each piece; using one side template for both sides. In this way the sides would match. Reverse the side when outlining side pieces. I cut enough pieces from the templates so I can make a dozen vessels at a time. Then I assemble the pieces like a model kit. All you have to do is to click on the image and it will open to full size. It is not necessary to download and then open. To return to the Gallery just hit return. Do not close the window.
