The 2nd Punic WarCarthaginians and Romans in Classical Hackby Phil Viverito IntroductionThis page is for beginners and experienced players who wish to game with Classical Hack during the Second Punic war period. It will supply web users with general and generic orders of battles for both powers: Carthage and Rome. Players will be able to field historical armies without any trouble by saving the page (downloading) to their hard drives and then printing. Next just cut out the unit markers and attach to the rear of the unit stands as explained in the rules Classical Hack on page 5. This page provides players with historical notes on the armies and the people which filled their ranks. It will assist players in creating units. The unit markers are one of the best gaming aids players could ask for; movement, basic shooting and melee factors as well as unit cost and morale class are all found here. This gives players most of the info they need to play without going to the reference pages in the rules. With this consumption of usual quick reference information placed on the unit markers the mechanics are greatly reduced. Players can then use the quick reference table seeking only Risk to Commander, Morale Results, Shooting and Melee modifiers. This is probably the first set of army lists ever produced that supplies the army lists and the unit markers as a complete set; speeding not only the game itself but also the compilation of the army lists. Let's address the lists army question. Originally lists were not even considered because we figured if people had read about the armies then they would automatically know what would be required. Apparently this is not so. Then in Classical Hack on page 42 we included some of the main formation diagrams for various armies. Later Grant Forsythe created a "Beginner's List" for the Second Punic War on the on the Classical Hack and I liked it so much I included it in Classical Hack Scenarios: Rome. Grant Forsythe's approach has been generally adhered to here with the major difference being that I have used the traditional points and factor system. Yes, I have completely disregarded his fast play point system. Not because it is not good, it is nothing short of excellent, but because I simply prefer the original method as written. Want Grant's Lists buy the book or check the Classical Hack Web Page I play and enjoy both. Then too for those with a grasp of how to create units it will help them go beyond this specific period. This section will deal with some social facts and the basic composition of both armies. Here too we will discuss what makes each unique. |
