Caesar's Legion Deployedby Philip J. Viverito Most sources agree on how a legion deployed which was in quinqex (a checker board pattern). We under stand this deployment to have units stand in lines (usually three deep) with a distance between each cohort or unit equal to the frontage of that kind of unit. Here is how I have deployed my legion in quinquex assuming that each stand is a cohort. It was in this way that the Roman lines could fall back behind support units to the rear. In essence this is the same thing shownm in Caesar's Legions link.
Classical Hack allows for using even individual stands as units. Normally I like to deploy my legions in units of sixteen and twelve figure units. The picture above is simply a micro image of what the larger units are permitted to do. |
