Fall In 1998by Phil Viverito Photos by Lance King
Celts Invade Greece! Allan Fleming Directs Classical Hack Game at Fall In 1998. Tim Bennett can be seen to the right, he is not saluting he forgot to make sure that his unit should have been facing in the direction it wanted to be going at the end of normal movement last turn! Tim, raising his hand to the Gods (on the right) is most noted for his famous quote, "Our guys stink!". Tim and Allan (top center) certainly made Fall In a great time!
The White Tags are Unit Markers. The green areas are rough terrain that had to be passed by using a directional die. The tan areas are flat ground areas that could yield normal movement.
The Macedonian elephants advance with a chilliarch of phalangites in support to the distant rear-not too distant but in this case the elephants broke back and went through the phalangites causing them to receive a single figure casualty and they remained disordered for the remainder of the turn. The phalangites in the next turn faced the pursuing Celts who were too slow to catch the elephants. Being tribal fanatics the Celts had to charge the next availble enemy unit. But this took time. More views of carnage seldom seen anywhere:
If the Celts do not give as many casualties as they inflict they must break off. In this case the elephants in the most extraordinary fashion blasted through all their enemies until they finally broke back doing a right hook back toward their own lines. Here they are encountering Celts who had to form a second line in order to face the rampaging elephants. Fortunately there were hundreds of Celtic figures on the board. |
