Alesia

Most of the photos are pretty self explanatory. However there are certain things that made Alesia typically Gallic. Note the walls with the buttons. Those buttons are really the ends of longs laid between the stone walls. These gave added strength. Also note that the gates had barriers in front of them. Alesia took advantage of being on a high stone or rocky hilltop. Ditches were not necessary for the most part. Beneath the town was a newer camp which gave the additional forces a place to seek cover..
