Cold Wars 2008 A.D: Egyptians and Sea People - page 3 of 3 Holy Hack Hacking By The Book, Second Edition is not a game for the shy. You must use terrain (i.e. cover like tents), skill (i.e what allies are available to you and deployment) and always luck as Napoleon would say. While all the players save one had little or no previous experience with the rules all seemed to have had fun though. Here are things from the Sea People vantage point. Top row photos show from left to right the following. Image one a simple unit of Sea People. I let the Sea People decide if they wished to use 6 figure or 12 figure units. Some were used as 6's and some as 12's. This gave the Egyptians more targets but also gave them more units to deal with thus splitting fire. Image two is from the east to west side of the Temple. The Sea people decided that this was the best place to get their stolen goods out by wagon. They used a D-10 die roll for each wagon during the movement phase of the turn. A roll of 6 permitted the wagon a move of 6 inches. A roll of 2 gave the wagon a movement of 2 inches and so. Wisely the Wagons were not in column. Image three shows the carts beneath the temple gates when the game started. The camp tents are at the top of the image.
Bottom row of photos shows in image one (left) Sea People among the tents. As the Sea People command on the west or left side of the temple fell back from terrible Egyptian fire which is historical, the Libyans were able to destroy several Egyptian chariot models and some infantry. The Libyans had both club men and archers. The Sea People were always at a disadvantage when facing the Egyptians. Image two shows the activity in the isolated northern front of the battle. On a narrow frontage the Sea People were able to engage the enemy after the loss of a unit which had to fall back from missile fire morale tests. The Sea People definitely won out here; sacrificing one unit to fire while getting another into charge reach. The Egyptians were advancing from four sides converging on the temple. Each Command had a full Egyptian division. The third view is a general view of things at game's end. The Sea People lost a lot of units but the leader, with the treasures and some units managed to pull off a tactical victory by leaving the table to the east. The Egyptians which could have stopped them choose to shoot rather than charge. This gave the Sea People time to escape with all their wagons. |
