Historicon 2008 - page 3 of 9 The Basic BattleOk now on with the Roman objectives. Their mission is to reduce the Celtiberian castro as the Celtiberians have rejected any iodea of tribute to Rome. {Trajan would be shocked.} To accomplish this The Romans will address the Celtiberian main force which anchored it's left flank on the rock formations guarding the castro entrance to a forest on their extreme right. This proved to be a necessary diversion.
The real Roman thrust was on the Roman extreme right. Here (shown below right) the Romans would advance in loose order lead by velites which were followed by hastati in loose order. An ala of cavalry would lead this appraoch to the gate defenses. By getting behind the rock formation and the outer gate defenses the Romans would have access to the actual gates of the castro. In effect with this done the Celtiberians would be forced to retire leaving the small garrison inside to fend for itself. Open the images in a new widow to view then hit the back button. |
