Ava Richard Wareing

[richard]

Some time back in the mid or late 1990's I was putting on games in Lancaster and a player stepped right up to the plate and after turn three or four asked me if he could run his side of the table like a GM. "Sure thing! ", I responded. I was always looking for help, except for Allan Fleming, I seldom had help. Any GM will tell you that putting on games can be exhausting even with help. The game ran smoothly and all had a good time. This was my first introduction to my friend Richard Wareing (shown jesticulating, in the center of the group to the right of the photo).

I have covered many of the things that makes one an evocati but one of the items I might have missed is the constant support at the most unexpected moments. As in Caesar's Commentaries at the last moment help arrives and the day is carried. Of course this is one of the qualities of friendship too. Friends are not always around. Friends may not even see each other for long periods of time. Through design or accident they get together and that friendship blooms again like a spring flower. As if having just seen each other the day before. The friendship is renewed and grows again. Friends are there always to help and give support when possible, at the moment. When they can help they do regardless of the cost to themselves in time or yes even money. Richard is just that kind of friend. That in my mind makes him evocati. Appearing like an unexpected relief column saving the day.

So for all the times Richard has appeared by design or accident I laude him as a true evocati. Ava Richard!
