My Sea People Army - page 5 of 5
[unit]

Of all the people the Sea People ran into only the Egyptians were able to withstand their onslaught. As stated the Sea People lacked any great long range (bow or sling) weapons and this proved their undoing. However, the Sea People allied themselves to Egypt's long time enemy the Libyans. shown above. In the first image on page one of this section I show the Libyan allies on the right side. The Libyans had archers and these provided the Sea People some counter balance to the Egyptians. Like the Sea People the Libyans were a tribal people. Again I like to use different size units of Libyans to depict this. For the Libyans I use 6, 9 and 12 figure units. These units I place on the flanks and front of the Sea People units. They can be in open or loose order.

[tactics2]

The Libyans provided the Sea People with the much needed long range missile units their own army lacked. Here I have depicted them in loose order. The Libyan archers were probably considerably less effective against those of the Egyptian Army. None-the-less they were not to be trifled with. They could be unexpected effective. Whether in open or loose order they fulfilled the the skirmish ability the Sea People lacked. Unlike the Sea People these were not terribly good in a stand up fight or melee. In fact if charged they must evade being armed missile armed only. I am still working on javelinmen inopen order. These could melee in the right circumstances.

Being allies the Libyans should be treated as an independent army. This means they can have their own Army Leader. They can also have command leaders and should use tribal unit leaders as it is in the nature of tribal armies. That is to have unit leaders at the lowest tactical levels. The loose order fighting units were armed with clubs and staves, however, as the figures I purchased have swords I left them with swords. It might be possible that the Sea People gave their allies swords for their support. Ok I have to live with the swords and rather than change them I left them. Hack it is a game after all. In melee give them the plus 2 for club first contact of each melee. In my games at Cold Wars I will be melding the Libyan Q.R.S. (list number 5, page 36) with that of the Sea Peoples. These will be posted to the Yahoo Group files section shortly. New Kingdom Egyptians being used at Cold Wars compliments the Sea People Army; check it out too.
