My New Kingdom Egyptian Army - page 4 of 6
As a whole the division relies on combined arms. Here is how I mount onto stands my heavy infantry of the foot units. In battle this was the final hammer the division relied on. These strong arm boys (as they were called)are mounted on half stands of 4 figures each (left). I like the way they look and it gives me the ability to do some very tactical things like moving from coumn in line (2 abreast). The second part of the image (right) I used half stands of 2 figures each. These can form a single line 1 stand deep. In both cases these are tactically very flexible.
Left is the division in column (bottom of photo). I am not showig the archers or chariots here. Just the heavy foot portion of the division. It moves to where it is going. When it arrives to where it wants to be, it can make a right or left face to form a battle line. When changing direction and formation (not order which is close order here) the unit is 2 ranks deep. This is ideal for demonstrratons games. For the half stands one figure deep then you can extend your line. But against spear units this is not always recommended. Notice that in the photo I have divided the foot portion of the divisio into two parts. One (left) are spearmen. To the right are axe men. I have retained the 3 figures per stand (one rank deep) for the axe men. |
