My Sea People Army - page 3 of 5
[tactics]

Tactics are important as a formation is nothing more than the vehicle which transports units across the battlefield. Now I like to use for my Sea People army in either 6 or 12 figure units. Here I am showing 12 figure units in loose order. I believe that the Sea People arrayed themselves in loose order for the most part and consequently I deploy my entire army of Sea People in loose order. The List does permit 4 figures per stand but I have chosen not to use this order type. Note too that I use the multiple 6 figures per stand loose order style. I do do this as I first like the look and secondly they force players to play them as the clumsy and deep ranks they would have been in historically. Yes they are easier to store and ship mounted in this way. Sea People fight up to 3 ranks. So even if they are as depicted here in column only the first 3 ranks can fight in melee. To Change direct they must do right, left or about facings, reducing 1 inch for each such change.

Sea People can be used either in column or line as depicted above. They would fight all figures here (in this case all 12 figures can melee). Using both 6 and 12 figure units would probably be historically correct. This reflects their tribal nature. How big is a tribe? We have no idea but common sense tells us that different tribes were of different sizes.

The Sea People do not seem to have had missile armed units beyond those with javelins. To make up for this definite short-coming they used Libyan allies. I use no open order units in my army except for allies. Then too these I use sparingly about one quarter to one third of the the total army. I give them javelins as well as sword. They are a clumsy but lovable army. There's just something about them I like.

In deployment I place the forward units in line, side by side. To their rear I place units in column. In this way should the units run into trouble they can evade or rout (more likely for me) back between the units to their rear. I keep about 2 or 3 inches between the lines of the army. I screen the orward units with allies. I suppose it would not be out of order to use some Sea People in open order with javelins to do screening and skirmishing. Remember units in loose order can skirmish too.
