[Classical Hack]

A historical game system for use with miniature figures in the Dark Ages. The book itself is 56 pages in length being published in a single volume measuring 8-1/2 inches by 11 inches and is profusely illustrated with diagrams, photographs and charts. Hack in the Dark was originally published in 1995 as Classical Hack III: Hack in the Dark as a multiple volume set written and designed by Philip J. Viverito, Ed Backer, and Richard Kohlbacher who hosted demonstration games under the group name The Jogglers.

Today this book is a revised, updated and unabridged by Philip J. Viverito. This book is a stand alone set of rules based on it's predecessor Classical Hack III: Hack in the Dark.

Most players are able to play the game without much if any help after turn three. The primary change from First Edition is the use of a D-10 system from a percentile based casualty calculation. The first part of the book describes the basics of the game in regard to unit generation, movement and shooting. The remainder of the book is designed a round the turn sequence. This takes the player basically through a typical turn describing each turn event in sequence.

The end of the book contains a section on Special Add-on Tactics. There is also a general Q.R.S. or Quick Reference Sheet for playing the game. There are 39 Army Lists and four scenarios.

Besides having a comprehensive Table of Contents there is an Index; which is not always found in game systems of this type.

The author is available for questions and answers usually replying within 48 hours for those asked on line at the Classical Hack Yahoo Group, by U.S. Mail or by e-mail. Hack in the Dark is designed, produced and published by LMW Works. ISBN 1-889584-50-9.
