Po Valley Celts vs. Romans - page 2 of 4

The Battlefield

The Battlefield was 3ft long and 3ft wide. Units were in 6mm scale, figures based on 20mm square bases. Movement distance was halved. From the bottom (South), a road traveled directly North up the Centre line. To the East of the road are patches of light forest rising onto some foothills (of the Apennines?). To the west of the road a wide flat plain opens out, interrupted by a single gentle hill to the North and right of the centre of the table.

[Paul's Map]The Romans deployed the Latin legion to the east of the road, Romans to the west. to the right of the Latin's were the Oscans, to the left of the Romans were all the Cavalry grouped together.

The Carthaginians deployed in a single line with the phalanx across the road, a unit of Numidians to their left of the phalanx, the elephants to the right of the phalanx, the Noble cavalry, the Citizen cavalry and finally the remaining Numidians on the extreme Carthaginian right flank.

The Celts deployed 1 tribe in the southern part of the wood, and 1 tribe in the hills further south.
