Classical Hack Ancient Warfare

Classical Hacking In England 2007 A.D.

As Reported to Phil Viverito
by Philip Viverito (Allan)

Allan Sent information to me about this recent event in England at Phalanx. I have been trying to get this posted and as you can see I have finally gotten to it. I truly appreciate Allan and his friends efforts! I have edited Allan's e-mail.

I (Allan) put on a Classical Hack game at Phalanx on Saturday. It was a variation on a game Mark Z. put at Historicon, back in 1999. The scenario was a legion gathering at a bridge near Hadrian's Wall. The locals (Celts or Picts) got a little upset, and decided it was time to kick the foreigners (Romans) out.

I am very proud of this event and especially since I was told that It won two awards:

1. Best of Show

. Best Demonstration Game

The game was enjoyed by everyone. The rule book, scenario books and Hack newsletters were out on open display. I will get some photographs to you next week (see below links).

I was watching the History Channel last week about Trajan's Column and the Roman war with the Dacians. This gave me the inspiration for the next game - the Dacian attack on a Roman frontier city, with a Roman relief force coming in later in the game.

The local game club - Furness Wargamers - are pretty active (check out their website - you can get to see my gaming buddies). We meet on Tues Nights, and get about 20-25 a time. Some are role players, some play 40k, the rest of us are historical gamers. The Hack games are reserved for Saturday/ Sunday games. We tend to lay on the better terrain for the Hack games. Everyone likes the rules.
