As Reported to Phil Viverito
by Philip Viverito (Allan)

Here are the briefings which Allan sent me. As well as photos, objectives, victory condintions, OBs and his original letter.

Phil,

Here are the briefings for the Hack game I put on at Christmas. It was played by Furness Wargamers, over here in the UK. You could put them on the web page. I plan to send you the army lists in the next email. They will be in Excel format (hope that is not a problem). I will follow that with some pictures of the game.

Let me know if you have a problem downloading the files.

Allan

The scenario is pretty selfexplanatory. We will start with the Romans.

The Limit of Empire Scenario

Roman Briefing

It is early spring on the frontier of the Roman Empire. The Emperor Hadrian had recently commissioned a wall to stretch from the Solway, in the west, to the Tyne in the east. The wall bisects traditional tribal lands.

The Roman garrison has allowed free right of passage across the wall to the tribes of the local confederation. This was deemed as acceptable to the Tribal chief, Caledonus. This agreement had led to peace on the frontier for the previous twelve months.

In accordance with the IX Legion’s tradition you have erected a temple to be dedicated to Jove. The Legion and its auxiliary troops have assembled and are preparing for the dedication ceremony, planned for tomorrow. A special sale of slaves is to be held, as a prelude to the festivities.

However, contrary to all expectations a Roman column has been attacked, within sight of the temple milecastle. A local tribe appears to be in rebellion. Dead and wounded litter the battlefield. A High Priest is offering the wounded to the tribal gods…..purified by fire.

The Roman garrison watches the proceedings…….how can the Legate allow this barbarity to go on? Cavalry commander Fettermanus steps forward. He offers to rescue the wounded. Fettermanus is well known in the Ninth for his belief that he could ride through the whole tribal confederation with a single squadron of cavalry. The Legate, Marcus Gracius considers his position……..Fettermanus has two squadrons at his disposal.

What worries Gracius most is what was the cause of this unwarranted attack.
