Line of Battle - page 2 of 2

[The lines meet]

The velites have evaded back. Now the lines meet. The two small blue arrows show the Spanish center unit {S-2} will fight two different Roman units {R-1 & L-1}.

The Romans will do the same. So working from the top down: Spanish unit 1 will fight against Roman unit 1; one melee roll for the Spanish and two for the Romans who will fight eight figures against S-1 and 4 against S-2. Romans have two rolls to do. Spanish unit 2 will fight half against the Roman hastati {R-1} and half against the Latin hastati {L-1}, two separate rolls.

The Latin hastati will have four figures rolling against S-2 and eight figures against S-3, two separate rolls. Spanish unit S-3 will fight all against Latin unit 3, one roll. Note the Spanish fight rank and a half.
