Using Tribals In Classical Hack - page 6 of 7 More Words On Romans
You may have noticed the stand of two figures behind the maniple in the previous section on Romans. These too are Hi and count as four figures per stand. I cut my four figure stands in half for a reason. By having them mounted in this way I can do many of the formation changes the Romans performed: see Roman Tactics. Finally here are some of the things Roman players should keep in mind. First Romans have relatively high melee factor when compared to that of the Celts. Any C Morlae Class Romans should be placed in the front line or dispersed among the cohorts in each line. The Romans do best when the entire line advances. To charge one cohort and not another in the same line can bring disaster as these will become isolated and then easily taken on. Romans fight in melee all the first line and half the rear ranks. Romans can exchange lines if they stand and receive a charge or after initial pursuit when winning a melee. In the latter case they can break off from a meleeand go back behind friends within two inches to their rear. Most importantly a player that has a cohort unit that starts taking casualties should seriously consider breaking off from melee. If they do not do this they will be slowly ground to dust and will be all killed off or so few in number a rally will provide no assistance in future melees. |
