Turn One-Shooting

With no Charges Chris and I moved on to Shooting in the Turn Sequence. This I have again high lighted in blue.

setup

The shooting was generally ineffective.

Here we see the battlefield from the Roman center. When shooting happens here are somethings to remember. Units shooting have target priorities. These are found on page 11 in the rules under eligibility.

Small arms have the same shooting value which is 5. To score a hit add and subtract the applicable shooting modifiers to and from the number 5 (see page 13). Now go to the Casualty Calculation Matrix on the last page. Cross reference the number 5 to the number of figures shooting. Roll a D-10 die.

Chris had 8 slingers in two ranks shooting. He will count all the front figures (the front rank) and half of the back figures (second rank)of in the unit. This means 6 of his slingers could shoot. On the Matrix you will find under factors 5 and then moving right sto under 8. You have 4/2/1. Any number above 4 is a miss. A 4 or 3 inflicts 1 casualty. 2 or less inflicts 2 casualties. In shooting a single unit can inflict a maximum of 2 figures. A number of units shooing at the same taarget can inflict more than two figures on a common target. Each unit shooting has to roll. You do not just count all figures shooting. It is done by rolling as individual units.
